CPF - MB Projects

CPF-MB projects compliment the curriculum and learning objectives of French Second Language programs. The projects enhance exposure to learning language opportunities outside the classroom. They assist students to experience French as a living language. Strongly supported by parents, these activities often involve whole families and provide the opportunity to acquire a new knowledge and appreciation of the richness that linguistic duality brings to our society.

More specifically:

French for Career Options is an interactive, career focused, full day event designed to enhance awareness of careers available to bilingual individuals.  It is designed to provide the opportunity for students to discover options available to the bilingual workforce and to realize that their language skills will offer them a lifetime of enhanced opportunities. 

Scheduled for May 16th, 2007 (French Immersion students) and May 18th, 2007 (Basic French students) at the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface.

French For Life is a French Second Language promotional campaign.  It was created in response to the Government’s Action Plan for Official Languages. The goal of the plan is to double the proportion of secondary school graduates with a functional knowledge of their second official language by 2013.

Camp Soleil is a summer camp for French Immersion students aged 6-10 years. They provide an opportunity for French Immersion students to use the French language outside of the classroom in a fun environment, which encourages, creativity, imagination, and an insight into French as a day-to-day, living and enjoyable language.

Scheduled camps in July and August, 2007 throughout the province.  Applications for 2007 camps currently being accepted.

Le Concours d’art oratoire is an annual French public-speaking event for schools throughout the province. Classroom, school and then board-level competitions lead to the provincial competition, which is held at the College universitaire de saint-Boniface.

Scheduled for May 5th, 2007; provincial finals at Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface.

Cultural Tours are French performance and activity events that enable French Second Language Entertainers / Facilitators to share their skills with students studying French as a second language. The tours are offered to students in Grades K –12, in areas where CPF-MB has a local Chapter.

Improvisation Workshops are drama-based French activities that introduce young French Immersion students in Grades 7-12 to the basics of improvisation techniques and the use of props.

French Multi-Media Kits are mobile resource libraries for FSL early-years, middle-years and senior-years students and parents. They are available to Manitoban schools for 6-week periods on a rotational basis. The kits contain a variety of French books, videos, read-along cassette and book sets, CDs, interactive CD-ROMS, and DVD’s.

Scheduled rotations province-wide throughout the year.

French for FSL Parents are courses designed to give parents of children in French-second-language programs a better understanding of second language acquisition and become more confident and encouraging of their children’s French language education.
